Benediktes, Horsens

So the first restaurant on the chopping block...

My wife and I went to Benediktes in Horsens. I had been there before to have lunch with a friend of mine and everything seemed good, so I expected to have good time with my wife while enjoying good food. So here it goes.

The atmosphere was nice and relaxing, the music was 80s and 90s rock, a good mixture of Queen and Micheal Learns to Rock. The resturant seemed to invite you in. Good, promising food and relaxed atmosphere, so far so good: 10 out of 10 really.

Then the service started, the waitress was ok, smiling, not very well dressed and perhaps having a bad hair day. We got two menues, one for food and the other for drinks, although they were very similiar, only one was bigger than the other, go figure.

The brunch menu was not too impressive, but ok, we were allowed to pick whatever we wanted. There where 12 items to choose from and the prices veried depending on the number of items one wanted. I was a bit nervous because the prices were from DKK 85 to 110 for 4 to 6 items which is not a lot if one is just a bit hungry like I was. But the waitress assured us that although there were not many items but there would be a lot on the plate, so no worries...

I ordered 5 items and my wife 4 items, I chose pancakes, medium boiled egg, smoked salmon with cheese, fresh fruit yogurt and a berry cake.

30 minutes later. The plate arrived, I was excited, 5 items, should be a full plate, then surprisingly I could hardly spot several small dots of color on a white square plate. My very first impression was that nothing on that plate was fresh but freshly unpacked from the supermarket packs.

Starting with the shock number one, pancakes! black like a chard on the side which was facing down, so I did not see it until I was cuting them to eat. THAT is not classy, they knew the pancakes where burnt, hence the reason why the burnt side was down.

The soft boiled egg was HARD boiled, and that is unforgivable.

My salmon with cheese was ok, but my wife's had a piece of tin foil on it and when the waitress was asked about it she said: it's packed in tin foil. WHAT that F***!, when one goes to a resutrant I dont think it is to much to ask for fresh food, we are paying a bunch of money for this SH***.

The coffee was good, it was served in a can which kept it warm till we wanted to drink it, so at least that was good.

I also ordered a freshly squeezed orange juice which had tones of ice and there seemed to be lots of water in it, it was not inspiring, not good.

We ate the things we got, then asked for the bill and politely complained about the things we found extremely bad, like the green salad which was partially rotten, an old cherry tomatoe..... anyway we had to pay the full price with a teasing promise that next time we would get pancakes for free as if we are going there to beg for free pancakes.

So overall it was poor and those "free" pancakes are going to wait for a long time before we collect them.

Benadiktes 2 out of 10!

So much we got for a brunch reserved 14 days before:)
